Norther Tier Rail Project
Greetings Good Citizens of the North Berkshires and Mohawk Trail Valley Towns!
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation is studying the creation and re-introduction of Passenger Rail Travel along the Northern Tier, connecting Greenfield, Massachusetts to North Adams, Massachusetts. While we applaud these efforts loudly, we feel strong consideration and inclusion to continue the rail line onto Bennington, Vermont and onto Albany, New York will make this a resounding success. This endeavor has the potential to connect the Communities of the Mohawk Valley in Franklin County, and the Communities of the Northern Berkshires to metropolitan areas such as Albany, New York thereby allowing rail commuting to employment opportunities to both our East and West. Albany, New York as a Standard Metropolitan Statistical Area of 1 million souls. There are good hi-tech jobs in an area known as the “Silicon Valley” of the Eastern Seaboard. Additionally, this would allow for both employees and employers to have a greater selection of job and resource opportunities, and open markets for both product and housing without having to drive over mountainous ways.
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for you to voice your support and ideas as to how this can positively impact our future in a real and meaningful way. This will also substantially boost the Travel and Tourist Industries as well as the efficient movement of Human Resources to job opportunities which are not currently practical to commute via automobile. This is an Environmentally sustainable travel/commuting model we should embrace.
Please contact your Legislators, MASSDOT Officials and voice your support for this effort!
